27 October has been designated as National Black Cat Day in the United Kingdom.
The purpose of the day is to encourage people to adopt a Black Cat, because they are allegedly harder to place in forever homes because of their associations with bad luck. However, according to Wikipedia this is a myth, and black cats are actually adopted at a higher rate than other cats.
